From Aisle to Home
Lori shared with us how she created this oh-so-chic industrial kitchen island-such an easy way to create added storage in a kitchen!
My husband is the cook in our house, and I’m the designer. So goes the battle between a working kitchen (his view) and a shelter magazine showcase (ok, my dream). He employs every manner of small kitchen appliance, utensil, container, ingredient, etc… my showcase kitchen cup runneth over. Did I mention what a fabulous cook he is? And how much I appreciate that I don’t have to cook?
So, I’ve come up with a win/win solution to satisfy both our desires. Storage, functionality and style all in one! Two tool carts from The Home Depot, inside wheels removed and bolted together, that make one industrial-chic kitchen island.
With full extension ball-bearing slides, you can fill up the drawers with canned goods. There’s a towel bar, adjustable legs, and hefty locking wheels for mobility. I’ve used one of the long drawers to hold nothing but storage containers and their lids… what a stroke of genius!
And, I had these wire baskets (from another project that went south) which provide organized areas underneath. We even used a third cart, extended to full height to store excess small kitchen appliances… after all the Ninja mixer must be readily accessible in any working kitchen!
Do it yourself: Create your own kitchen island with this Husky 46 in. Stainless Steel 5-Drawer 1-Door Mobile Work Center… there’s definitely some kitchen island potential there!
Do it for me: Not crafty? No worries… we have Kitchen Carts.
